Ennerdale Rugby Football Club is a nonprofit organisation and heavily reliant on public funding. However, members are encouraged to fund raise as best they can to ensure the long term financial sustainability of the club.
Most of our funding over the past 5 years was in the form of grants from the GLRU in the form of playing kit and allowances for the club manager and coaches. All funds received whether from the GLRU or through fundraising and or donations, are paid directly into the club account to cover our operational expenses.
We have also received club aid from the GSARC in the form of playing kit and training equipment.
Fury Motor Group operates a club development scheme which includes raffle in which a car can be won. The proceeds from the raffle is retained by the club. These funds clubs could use to their defray operational costs. The club can raise a minimum R 25 000.00 through the project.
As a club we have decided not to pay individuals due to the limited funding and require members to volunteer their services to the club. This allows the club to fund most of our transportation costs. Transport costs are to date our biggest expense in the running of the club.
We acknowledge the generous contributions, from the following organizations, it has kept us afloat and we are humbled by their generosity:
- GLRU (Golden Lions Rugby Union)
- Fury Motor Group
- GSARC (Gauteng Department of Sorts Arts Culture & Recreation)
- The Health Haven
- Demtech
- Burglar Predator
ENNERDALE RFC & GAUTENG GOVERNMENT [GPG]:
We have an excellent relationship with our provincial government. Government has always said that they can't administer sport; it is the duty of communities and federations to do that. Government's job is to create an environment in which it can be done. Ennerdale took up the challenge from government and the results are absolutely stunning.
During 2009 the GPG paid for 16 of our members to attend the IRB Level 1 coaching course at R 450.00 per person. That is R 7200.00 in monetary terms. Furthermore the GPG has bought and donated kit and equipment valued at R 60 000.00 to Ennerdale and nine other clubs in the province.
All government asks of us, as a club and as communities is that we comply with the legal requirements. It is hard work to become compliant and stay compliant – but it is worthwhile.
Judging from what we have experienced, this government can work for you if you do your part. Go GP, you good thing!!!
