Welcome to Ennerdale RFC
Ennerdale Rugby Football Club is the newest addition to the Golden Lions Rugby Union [GLRU]. The Club was started 12 months ago on 21st March 2006. It is by no coincidence that the Club was started on “Human Rights Day” in South Africa.

The Club is testimony to the development partnership between the GLRU and the community. The Club has its origins in the schools development programme of the Union. Most of the players came through the local schools structures that forms part of the Union’s development structures. Many of our scholars have represented the Union at provincial level. Some of our coaches have also had the honour of representing the GLRU at national tournaments.

In 2007 we enrolled to play in the President’s League, the entry level league of the GLRU. We had a torrid time and could not manage to win any of our league matches – something we need to correct very quickly. It was steep learning curve for a group of teenagers.

The Club is situated in the most south-western part of the City of Johannesburg’s Region G. This is the most under developed part of the city with vast stretches of open land, numerous informal settlements, unemployment as high as 70%, according to the City’s statistics.

Our membership ranges from 11 to over 40’s. Currently the like has a distinct male character as 90% of our members are male.

Ennerdale Rugby Football Club has the following teams:

  1. Under 21’s, who play as our first team
  2. Under 18’s, who play as our second team
  3. A blend of under 17& 16, who play under 20
  4. A blend of, under 13, 14, 15 & 16 who play as our junior teams.

ABOUT THIS PLAN:

This plan has been developed by a forum representing the members of the Club. Whilst mindful of the fact that there are and always will be individual needs within the Club, there is a greater need to share common goals. It is the said common goals that are documented.

The plan commences by documenting the following:

  1. Resources: What we have to work with.
  2. Competitors: Those with whom we compete for resources, time, money and facilities
  3. Positioning: How our community perceive us.
  4. Targets: The people and organisations we need to communicate to, now and in future.
  5. Environment: An overview of external factors that affects the Club direct or indirectly.

The plan then suggests a SWOT analysis of the Club.

The next step in the plan is to identify 4 [four] major objectives and what operational objectives have to be achieved to attain these goals.

This strategic document is then supported by a 5 year rolling plan to achieve these objectives in the next 5 [five] years.
