Club Development

We are a young club in relation to the clubs registered with the Golden Lions Rugby Union. In March 2011 we celebrated our 5th anniversary. As a club we were hoping to be much further than we currently are. We had all the plans dreams and aspirations to be the fastest growing club in the union.

This was not to be due to a lack of interest by the community and the schools in the area. We were also unable to sustain the growth we had over the preceding 4 years due to various reasons. Some of these reasons are;

  • More than 90% of our players are unemployed resulting in a lack of commitment to the club.
  • The club is managed by individuals that are involved in the administration and double up as players.
  • The lack of funds to sustain our development programs at primary level.

These are only a few reasons why we are not at a level where we should be, but we will not be discouraged from achieving our goals. It only means that it will take us longer than planned and for now we are at a point where we need to implement our aims and objectives more vigorously to achieve them.

It is clear that we need help and it is not necessarily financial but in the form of manpower to execute our plans. With everyone hoping to get paid to assist or offer up their time for the cause makes it extremely difficult. We pride ourselves in the fact that we believe that the only way to get somewhere is to take a step in any direction. We will eventually get to where we want to be, as long as we keep our eyes focused on the end result.

Despite all failures and successes we still have a strategic plan that if implemented can make this club and organisation successful. See our “Strategic Plan”
